Why Treasure Hunts Make Brilliant Group Activities for Friends and Celebrations

Mystery Guides turns a group day out into a proper adventure, with everyone working together to solve clues, explore the city and find real hidden treasure at the end….
Which is considerably more exciting than sending twelve people into a pub and hoping they all get along.

Whether it’s a mate’s birthday, old uni friend reunion, hen or stag do, family day out or simply an excuse to get your mates together and have a laugh, the right activity can make all the difference.

Why are treasure hunts good group activities?

Mystery Guides treasure hunts are the best group activity idea because everyone can get involved.

A Mystery Guide isn’t about having one person who knows all the answers while everyone else follows behind. You work together, spot treasure hunt clues, compare ideas and try to crack the mystery.

Some people will be good at the history. Others will spot things everyone else has missed.

Someone will confidently suggest an answer that is completely wrong.

You need that person. Every group has one.

What makes Mystery Guides different from ordinary group activities?

There’s a real goal at the end: hidden treasure. Take The Mystery of The Fake Cheque Fiasco in Birmingham. Rather than simply wandering around Birmingham with a list of questions, the group becomes part of a mystery that unfolds as you follow the clues.

Or head to Glasgow for The Mystery of The Whisky Bottle Bandit, where the group sets out to find a hidden whisky bottle. Suddenly, “what shall we do this weekend?” has become considerably more interesting.

Are treasure hunts good for birthdays and celebrations?

Mystery Guides treasure hunts are great for birthdays and other celebrations, particularly when you want something everyone can enjoy.

You don’t need specialist equipment, complicated bookings or everyone to be the same age or fitness level. The adventures are designed to be enjoyed at your own pace, with plenty of opportunities to stop along the way.

That makes them useful for everything from birthday celebrations to family days and catch-ups with friends.

Can a group treasure hunt be competitive?

Of course, and that’s half the fun. Split into teams, compare answers or simply see who can crack the clues first. You can be as competitive as your group naturally becomes.

Just remember: friendships have been known to survive many things. Losing a treasure hunt may not be one of them.

Where can you do a Mystery Guides group activity?

There are Mystery Guides adventures in cities across the UK, meaning you can choose a destination that suits your group.

Newcastle has The Mystery of the Match-Ball Burglar, while Manchester has The Mystery of The Strangeways Soprano.

Each adventure combines city exploration with clues, history and a final treasure hunt.

So if you’re looking for group activities in the UK that are genuinely different, forget another afternoon sitting around a table. Grab your mates, pick a city and see who can find the treasure first.
