Sheffield's Hidden Gems: A 48 Hour Adventure

We've planned the perfect Sheffield trip... so you don't have to!

People enjoying their Sheffield Adventure

Day 1

12pm

Start your Mystery Guides adventure

Your mystery begins…Sheffield War Memorial (opposite City Hall)

Clues 1 - 11: Is the Norfolk Knife from Norfolk?

In the first half of your adventure, you'll discover Sheffield Cathedral, Fitzalan Square and Norfolk Street where the famous ‘Norfolk Knife’ was first created. The knife was incredibly intricate featuring 74 seperate blades and tools (resembling a modern Swiss Army Knife). Multi-tools like these even date as far back as the Romans!

Take a Break!

Spend a penny (literally!) in the unique bar, Public, found in a former Victorian men's toilet! The bar, now offering a luxurious array of drinks, can be found not far from Sheffield Town Hall (around the middle of your adventure!). Booking is reccomended.

Clues 12-16: The Show Must Go On!

In the second part of your adventure, you'll discover the Winter Gardens and Surrey Street. Not far from here stands the Lyceum Theatre which over the years has suffered two major fires. Throughout history, theatres have been a hotbed for disaster and were at the mercy of rudimentary ‘special effects’. At Shakespeare's Globe for example, backstage staff would fire real cannons and through explosive powder into candles to mimic the sound of thunder!

4pm (approx.)

Finish your adventure

Your mystery ends…around Orchard Street

Grab a bite to eat at the final location or explore one of Sheffield's many restaurants.

Sheffield Town Hall

Stay the Night

If, like me, you enjoy a little bit of luxury, why not spend the night at the Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Sheffield, set back from the main road on it's own private driveway but still centre to the city and surrounded by action!

Day 2

Don't Stop There…

Keep the fun going! With a range of classic games from pool, ping pong, darts, bowling and even an arcade - Lane7 provides the perfect opportunity to keep the competition going! With delicious food and drinks on offer too!

Museum of Curiosities…

Why not visit the Alfred Denny Museum (part of the University of Sheffield and named after the first lecturer in Biology there!) and discover more about the natural world. From over 300 insects to an array of skeleton speciments there is so much to discover. Some of the specimens have been housed here from the early 1900s when collections like this were at their peak! Tour dates are limited so book on their website before visitng!
