Day 1

12pm

Start your Mystery Guides adventure

Your mystery begins…Robin Hood Statue

Statue in honour of the city's much-loved outlaw.

Clues 1 - 9: How did Robin Hood get his name?

In the first half of your adventure, you'll discover Speakers Corner, Old Market Square and the Robin Hood Statue.

A visit to Nottingham would not be complete without a selfie with local hero Robin Hood! In fact, Robin Hood may not have been his name at all. Some believe that because 'hood' and 'wood' were pronounced the same, he could have really been "Robin of the Wood".

Take a Break!

Described as a traditional ale house, a trip to the Cock and Hoop would be the perfect place to quench your thirst after solving clues. Originally a house, the pub was named Cock and Hoop which comes from an unusual, old expression, ‘to set cock a hoop’ meaning drinking and celebrating without restraint. Perhaps the perfect name for a pub!

Clues 10-16: A Top Player!

In the second part of your adventure, you'll discover Broadway, Castle Gate and The Exchange. Nottingham, famous for its lace production, also became a key ‘player’ in the tobacco industry. Player's Cigarettes became a household name, offering new pre-packed and weighed tobacco and a range of trading cards to boost their appeal!
